    Hello 3rd graders,

Today is going to be a glorious day, sunny, warm, yeah. Get out there and play today!!!

You are going to make a city from a cardboard box or several cardboard boxes. There are about a million ways to do this, so you can NOT get it wrong.

Your city can be big or small, use one box or several, paint it or not, these things are up to you.

I would like you to have some windows and doors ( cut them out or draw them on) and some other details like the number of the building or a sign (Target, Animal Hospital, Candy Store...)

I am going to show you several pictures of how some kids decided to do this project, you can use their ideas as a starting point or totally do your own thing, it is up to you. The main thing is to be creative and have fun.

    cardboard

you can go tall, notice the light coming out of the windows.

    cat house caedboard

you can make a space for your cat, cool ramp into the house.

    cardboard city

you can make roads and trees.

    tall cb

    tall again

    flat cb

you can go flat, take the box apart and lay it flat. Draw lots of roads for your cars and make some street signs too.

    cat cb

more space for your cats...how many cats do you have?back city

look at the clothes lines and stairs.

    castel

    OMG, enough with the cats!!!

    castel

you can make a castle, look at the use of toilet paper rolls.

    laddrrs

or a city with ladders instead of stairs.

    fake city

    or a city with people.

There are a million ways to do this. Think about what supplies you have, think about what a city looks like to you, think about your favorite thing about a city and have fun.

    Please send pictures!!!

And I'll see y'all next week.

    Hello 6th graders,

I have learned from some of you (thank you) that the website Graffiti Creators was blocked. I am sorry, this will not happen again.

Consequently, your assignment this week is to play around with the unblocked website Graffiti Creator. Investigate the many style options it has, play with color and background. When you have something you like take a screen shot and then draw it by hand.

Or do your own thing, totally invent your own style, color it in, think about the background as well.

And please email me your amazing work.

Have fun, push yourselves, and get outside in the sun today!!

  • 4th grade-Happy Box

Posted by Lisa Magnarelli on 4/16/2020 3:00:00 AM

    Hello 4th graders,

I hope you are well today, the sun is shining so try to get out there and play a bit!!

Today you are going to make a Happy Box.

What is a happy box, you ask?

It is a box that you put things in that makes you happy. This box is all about you and things that make you smile, things that inspire you, things that can turn a sad mood into a happy mood.

This is a box that when it is raining outside and there is nothing to do, you go get your box, look inside and all the things you chose to put in your box help make a shift inside you...the mood changer box.

This BOX going to be different for everyone because this is your box. This box is totally personal, it is made by you for you.

Even what you call it is up to you, you do not have to call it a happy box, it could be called my box, or the box, or the mood changer box, or Bob. It is totally up to you how you decorate your box, what goes in your box and what you call your box.

The only requirement is that the items in your box lift your mood, that is essential. (adj. absolutely necessary; extremely important.)

So, your work this week is to find a box, decorate it (the outside and the inside), and fill it up with things that make you happy.

Lets brain storm about what could go in your box:

    • pictures of you and your family, your pets, your friends
    • A rock you found and loved and brought home from the beach
    • a picture of a mountain range you found in a nature calendar
    • a motivational quote you love and always gets you going
    • a list of things you can do when you are feeling bored or lonely (draw, write a letter to a friend, run around the house 5 times..)
    • a card you saved that your best friend, parents, grandma, gave you
    • a picture you drew and you are proud of
    • your favorite crystal
    • favorite book
    • the chap stick you love the most
    • a stuffed animal

There are so so many things that could go in your box, your job is to find them. Think about it, look around your room, the house, make things, go outside and find things, look online for positive sayings and quotes, or pictures of bunnies and puppies..whatever works for you.

    Now lets start......

    with the box...

    boxes

you can use a shoe box, any size is great.

    box box wood

wooden boxes are good too if you have them..

    box

A box a package came is is perfect too!

Decorate...You can collage the outside with inspirational words and sayings....collage box box

You can put your name on it.....

    name box

You can decorate the outside with anything you have at home: marker, paint, wrap it in paper, glue stuff on it like little rocks, acorns, buttons, string, beads.....

    boxes happy

And don't forget the inside....make the inside as beautiful and smiley as the outside.

    inside

Now that you are all decorated, fill your box up with the things that make YOU happy, that make YOU smile or giggle. Things you know work to lift your mood.

    reliance box calm down

Yeah!! you did it. Well done you!!

Once your box is complete, put it in a special place but make sure you can see it and reach it easily. That is important, so if you need your box it is always right there.

When you are low, when you miss your friends or it is raining and you can't go outside, grab your box and lift your spirits and have a great day!

*Remember, this is your box. You can add things and take things away as you feel necessary. It is a flexible thing, it changes as you change.

If you feel comfortable sharing your personal box, please send me pictures of your amazing work and I'll post it on the website.

Have a great week and use your box whenever you need to.

    Be well 4th graders.

  • 4th grade-inspiration boxes

Posted by Lisa Magnarelli on 4/15/2020 4:00:00 AM

    Hello 4th graders,

I understand from Dyan that you have been collecting artifacts to be used to inspire your writing and that you need to put these artifacts in something like a box

So, based on conversations with Dyan, today I need you to find that box and transform that humble box into an inspiration box, a box to hold and keep safe your artifacts that give you ideas, good feelings and confidence to write to the best of your ability. (I bet this boxes could also be used to inspire art work as well!)

This is a very open ended art project. There are a million ways to do this, and since it is your box for your artifacts it is also personal; meaning the way you choose to decorate your box is all about you, no one else.

I'm going to show you some examples of how some folks decided to make their boxes, but really these examples are just to get you thinking, to get the juices flowing, to give you some ideas for you to then run with.

Today you are going to make YOUR box; a box that is all about you!!

    boxes

you can use a shoe box, any size is great.

    box box wood

wooden boxes are good too if you have them..

    box

A box a package came is is perfect too!

    boxes

    And don't forget the inside....inside

Now, think about what your box needs and get going, make an amazing box to hold all your artifacts, those things that inspire you and then go and be inspired!

If you feel comfortable sharing your personal box, please send me pictures of your amazing work and I'll post it on the website.

Have a great week and use your box to inspire you to write, draw, dream...

    Be well 4th graders.
