6th grade-furniture from recyclables
Posted by Lisa Magnarelli on 5/28/2020 10:45:00 AMHello 6th graders,
I hope you are well and healthy and getting out in this amazing weather!!
This week in art you are going to be building furniture from recyclables. I personally love this project and can't wait to build something myself.
Check out some of these incredible things people have made....so creative!
Chair from cardboard and cardboard tubes.
A table made out of baseball bats...
More chairs from cardboard tubes.
Old CD's form a beautiful lamp shade.
Chair from rolled up newspapers.
Milk carton lamp shade.
Egg cartons coffee table.
As you can see there are about a million things you could make and a million materials you could use!
Check out this chair made from plastic water bottles, wood and zip ties (those black lines on the first row of bottles and the last row of bottles). So beautiful!!
You could use cardboard as sides instead of wood too!
And Lastly,
Check out the cool video at the bottom of this page. A woman named Micaella Pedros explains how to make furniture using discarded plastic water bottles...now that's a material that is everywhere!!! She has an ingenious way to attach materials, really brilliant idea!!
OK, your assignment this week is to....
1) Think about what you want to make, a chair, a table, a stool......
2) Do a bit of research and see what others have done, what materials they have used, how did they stick things together?
3) See what materials and supplies you have available around your home.
4) make it!
Have fun, be creative, and make something you can use in your home!!!
Send me pics!!!!

3rd grade-junk sculpture
Posted by Lisa Magnarelli on 5/28/2020 10:00:00 AMHello 3rd graders,
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and got outside to play in the rain and the sun!
Today we will be making sculpture from junk or recyclables. Whatever you have around the house is perfect ( NO GLASS PLEASE), boxes, toilet paper rolls, lids from bottles and jars...whatever.
You can attach stuff with tape, string, glue or a glue gun if you have one ( have an adult help you with a glue gun) or cutting the pieces and fitting them together. I bet there are 100 ways for things to stay together, use your imagination.
Today you can make whatever you want, representational art ( art that looks like something in the real world)
a robot
a rocket
or abstract art ( art that does not look like something in the real world but instead use shapes, colors and texture).
see how they cut the cardboard and slid twp pieces together to have it stay stable?
Here is a video showing great ways to attach cardboard
There is no wrong way to do this project. Just look in the recycle bin, use your imagination, and have fun!!!
Please send me pictures of your artwork!!

I miss you all, see you next week!

This week in art we are learning about warm and cool colors.
To start, please watch this silly video for an over view of warm and cool colors.
Silly video explaining what warm and cool colors are
Pretty silly, right?
So warm colors are colors that remind us of the sun, fire, or spicy peppers....
RED, YELLOW, ORANGE
And cool colors are colors that remind us of being cool, like a lake, a night sky or cool grass....
BLUE, PURPLE, GREEN
Very interesting!
Here is another video about warm and cool colors, this video has more information and details, check it out!
Great video that emplanes warm and cool colors with more detail.
O.K..., now you are getting it!
This last video is a step by step video on how to draw a very beautiful warm/cool, sun/moon drawing.
I love learning from videos because if I don't understand something, or they are going too fast, I can go back or even slow the video down! You can do that too!!
Video showing great art project with warm and cool colors
This week in art you are going to do a drawing with warm and cool colors. You can use one of the pictures on this website as an example, you can do the step by step video drawing or you can make up your own warm/cool drawing. It is totally up to you!
Just have fun, learn lots and.....
Please send me pictures of your work!! I would love to see these warm/cool drawings!
Have a great week, y'all.
And get out in the warm sun!!

1st grade-hand shadow puppets
Posted by Lisa Magnarelli on 5/27/2020 1:00:00 PMHello 1st graders,
I hoe you are all doing well and getting outside to play ball, ride a bike, make art....whatever, just get outside in this amazingly sunny weather!!!
This week in art you are going to make hand shadow puppets!
What are shadow puppets, you ask...they are images that are projected on a wall that you make when a light is placed by your hands and your hands cast a shadow on that wall. When you make your hands into certain shapes you can cast a shadow that looks like a dog, a bird, a duck....it's pretty cool and fun to do at night before bedtime.
You can just mess around with hand shadow puppets and see what you can make on your own, you can look at the above examples and give them a try, you can watch the three videos I have posted below, or you can do all three. Whatever works for you!
This is the first video and gives a great introduction to making hand shadow puppets.
Great video on how to make shadow puppets
Cool, right?
This next video makes hand shadow puppets that are a bit harder, but you can do it!!
another video on how to make some more advanced shadow puppets
O.K..., you got it now!!
This last video is way more advanced, give it a try!
And here are even more examples of hand shadow puppets!
Awesome!!!
Well done you!!
O.K...., get going, have fun, teach someone how to make a hand shadow puppet and pleas,e send me pictures if you can!!
Have a great week everyone!!
